When you shop online, most sites offer you some sort of ‘complete satisfaction’ warranty. But - Refunds and Exchanges often come with strings attached! Look out for the small print that says things like:
“...goods must be returned unopened”
- How do you know if you’re satisfied (let alone your child) if you can’t open the packaging?
“…goods must be returned within seven days”
- Unless you decide on sight that it’s not what you expected, can you really make a proper assessment, re-pack and allow for the time for the package to make it back to the supplier?
“…goods must be in the original packaging and in a saleable condition”
- The chances are that unless you took a dislike to the product as soon as you opened it, the packaging has long since gone into the recycling bin by the time you realise you want to return it.
- In a saleable condition? Does that mean that you shouldn’t notice that somebody already opened it, tried it out and sent it back? Does that mean that when you order a toy for your child you might get one another person has already rejected?
Frankly, we get so few returns we don’t fuss about it. What we will never do though, is re-sell an item that somebody has returned for whatever reason. If you’re purchasing a new item for your child, do you like the thought of giving them a toy that a complete stranger has already opened, played with a bit and then sent back? We don’t either. The returns that we do get are collected up, checked for safety and donated to charities or local playgroups to enjoy.
